Thrifting in Dior

I feel stalled this week. Everything is closed or everyone is busy and I’m just waiting for the New Year to move forward. Instead of moping, I donned my velvet, vintage Christian Dior jacket (from my friend Jena) and went thrifting.

Jacket, Christian Dior (vintage gift). Sweater, Joseph A (thrifted). Shorts, Free People (thrifted). Leggings, Allen B. Boots, Ariat. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses.

I don’t wear this jacket enough. It feels too fancy and bold for the everyday. I countered that feeling with cutoffs and western boots.

Colors of the Season

It doesn’t have to be late December for me to pair red and (olive) green. It’s one of my favorite color combos.

Shirt, Salt Valley (consignment). Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a thrifted jacket). Dress, Mossimo. Leggings, We Love Colors. Boots, Sam Edelman.

Be my BFF

Do you want to be my BFF? I have the following requirements:

1. Must love on my animals.
2. Must eat the food and drink the beverages I prepare (and at least pretend to like them).
3. Must watch Logan’s Run.

That last one is the true test of our friendship. If you sit through the entire movie, we will be best friends forever.

Sweater, Worthington (thrifted). Tunic, Wet Seal (thrifted). Boots, Blondo. Earrings, Article (consignment).

Yes, Beefy and my friend Colette passed this test long ago. Today, my friends Jeff and Leah joined the inner circle. No one has passed that final requirement in a good six years.

Condition number one is pretty important, too. I’ll clean before you come over, but you will still leave covered in fur. I’m not sure how that happens…

And, of course, condition number two is a no-brainer. I’m an excellent chef and mixologist.

Ready in 15

I had 15 minutes to go from dog-running-sweaty to fancy-waffle-ready. I applied deodorant, mascara, and lipstick. I hid my greasy hair with a hat and my puffy eyes with sunglasses. I hoped that a poncho would disguise my lounge-ready layers beneath. Then, I forgot about my appearance (and smell?) and just enjoyed fancy waffles with my friend.

Hat, Nine West. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Poncho, thrifted. Tee, Mossimo. Shorts, Free People (thrifted). Boots, Matisse.

I Shot Lisa

My calendar is filling up with photography appointments. It’s starting to look like an assassin’s daybook with “shoot Lisa,” “shoot Sam,” “shoot Julia.” I may want to reconsider how I title the bookings.

Coat, Avanti (thrifted). Sweater, Banana Republic (thrifted and gifted). Tunic, Rachel Roy (consignment). Leggings, Amour. Boots, Vince Camuto. Earrings, Claire’s. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff.

I took these photos after shooting Lisa of The Everyday Elevated She’s totally adorable. I’d share a picture from our session, but I’m still editing boudoir pics from Friday. My goal is to finish those, today!

Casual Elegance

I’m the last person to consider myself “elegant.” I’d say I’m “cute*” or “quirky.” But someone else said I looked “elegant” in this casual, holiday party ensemble, so I’m going to embrace the adjective.

Sweater, Express (consignment from our Sacramento Fashion and Style Meetup at Article). Skift, Bass (thrifted). Booties, Blondo. Scarf, flea market. Necklace, thrifted. Bag, Steve Madden. Raincoat, REI.

*How old does one have to be before “cute” no longer applies? I’m ready to outgrow that one.

Dogwalk to Sidewalk

I look completely unpresentable after agility. I treat Jasper with chicken and wipe my greasy hands on the utility vest I wear for class. Still, my fingers retain a film that attracts dirt from the dusty arena. It takes all my discipline not to brush hair from my eyes and inadvertently smear the dirt and grease across my face and in my hair. The dirt coats my shoes and sticks to my jeans when I kneel or squat to give Jasper attention. To quote my friend, Lauren, I look “totally homeless” by the time class concludes.

Usually, this isn’t an issue since I go from agility to bed (sometimes changing, first), but there is the rare occasion when class is held in the daytime and I might like to go somewhere afterwards. For this transition, I changed footwear and threw a nice poncho over my jeans and hoodie. I dusted off the jeans and stashed the greasy utility vest in my trunk. I won’t win any style awards, but I look like I at least tried to be presentable.

Poncho, Christopher & Banks (gift). Hoodie and tee, Mossimo. Jeans, Old Navy. Booties, Blondo. Sunglasses, Earthbound Trading Co. Bag, Steve Madden.

For those unfamiliar with the sport of dog agility, the green thing in the background of the below picture is a “dogwalk:”

Two Blazers

The last time I asked you which outerwear I should wear, many voted for both jackets. This time, I obliged by wearing one blazer for the day and the other for the evening.

Blazer, BSB Jeans (thrifted). Sweater, Joseph (thrifted). Shorts, Lassie. Tights, B. Ella. Boots, Steve Madden. Earrings, consignment. Sunglasses, Earthbound Trading Co. Bag, Steve Madden.

The lead photo is my evening blazer. I led our Sacramento Fashion and Style Meetup at Article (a consignment shop) and thought the stylish crew would appreciate my pattern mixing. For my daytime activities of a visit to the Subaru dealer and coffee with a former coworker, I opted for the more conservative topper (a J Crew blazer from another consignment shop).

Can you tell which jacket I liked best?
