Thrifting in Dior

I feel stalled this week. Everything is closed or everyone is busy and I’m just waiting for the New Year to move forward. Instead of moping, I donned my velvet, vintage Christian Dior jacket (from my friend Jena) and went thrifting.

Jacket, Christian Dior (vintage gift). Sweater, Joseph A (thrifted). Shorts, Free People (thrifted). Leggings, Allen B. Boots, Ariat. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses.

I don’t wear this jacket enough. It feels too fancy and bold for the everyday. I countered that feeling with cutoffs and western boots.

Green Velvet Red Lips

We spent Christmas Day with some barely relatives, at Beefy’s cousin’s husband’s sister’s house. You’d never know we were so distantly related by the warmth of their welcome or the spread on the table (crab legs, prime rib, and pecan pie). Hospitality like that deserved my festive best.

Sweater, vintage consignment. Dress, Parker (consignment). Boots, Steve Madden. Sunglasses, Earthbound Trading Co. Earrings, made by my friend. Clutch, Maggi B. Brooch (on clutch), vintage heirloom.

Black on Black on Black

I was directed to wear black on black to work a couple of events today. My black trousers haven’t yet arrived, so everyone got a good look at my underthings as I lifted heavy objects from a squat position. (Thank goodness for pettipants!) You can dress me in all black, but you can’t make me classy!

Jacket, BCBG Max Azria (consignment). Scarf, souvenir from Holland. Vest, It’s Our Time (thrifted). Dress, Express. Necklace, Serket Jewelry. Shoes, Chelsea Crew.

Ugh, black is the worst for showing pet hair. Especially black velvet. I promise I lint rollered myself thoroughly before these pictures.
Photos by me, the tripod, and a remote.

Two Blazers

The last time I asked you which outerwear I should wear, many voted for both jackets. This time, I obliged by wearing one blazer for the day and the other for the evening.

Blazer, BSB Jeans (thrifted). Sweater, Joseph (thrifted). Shorts, Lassie. Tights, B. Ella. Boots, Steve Madden. Earrings, consignment. Sunglasses, Earthbound Trading Co. Bag, Steve Madden.

The lead photo is my evening blazer. I led our Sacramento Fashion and Style Meetup at Article (a consignment shop) and thought the stylish crew would appreciate my pattern mixing. For my daytime activities of a visit to the Subaru dealer and coffee with a former coworker, I opted for the more conservative topper (a J Crew blazer from another consignment shop).

Can you tell which jacket I liked best?

Waffle and a Blazer

After seeing these patterns together, I couldn’t wait to pair this paisley velvet blazer with this fox-print waffle shirt. Halloween and pub trivia seemed to be the right occasion.

Blazer, BSB (thrifted). Shirt, Mossimo. Jeans, Old Navy. Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren. Bag, Steve Madden. Earrings, Charming Charlie.

To make this the lamest nod at Halloween, ever, I added kitty ears and a bell collar.

My 365 photos are both about my morning runs with the dogs.

These three dogs live in a yard that borders an athletic field through which we run. I think there is a shed or a woodpile that they climb to peek over the 6 foot fence. Once, one of them jumped the fence and it was terrifying.

Jackson loves his runs, but hates the harness. He runs and hides when I pull it out. He isn’t a good hider.

Kumquat

I’m having some citrus envy. When we bought our house I was charmed by the prospect of owning my very own orange tree. Three years later, the oranges fall and rot. Juicing them is a messy, sticky business and there is no way we could eat all the fruit. My neighbor has a lemon tree and the laden branches mock me every time I return from the grocery store with another sackful of purchased lemons. If I had a lemon tree (well, I have a tiny tree, but it doesn’t produce yet), would I wish I had an orange tree instead?

Blazer, BSB (thrifted). Tank, Old Navy. Pants, Polo Ralph Lauren. Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren. Sunglasses, Giselle. Earrings, Charming Charlie. Necklace, Zad. Bag, Canvas boutique.

My citrus envy reached new heights when I parked in front of a loaded kumquat tree today. I snagged only photos but really wanted to fill my purse with the tart fruit.

Upholstery

Beefy says this jacket looks like couch fabric. I’d love to have a davenport upholstered in this autumnal, velvety, paisley pile. I’ve got old lady taste.

Jacket, BSB (thrifted). Blouse, BCBG Max Azria. Skirt, vintage, thrifted, shortened, and embellished. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Miz Mooz. Earrings, Charming Charlie. Bag, Steve Madden.

I’m not sure if this is an old person thing, but our fridge is chock full of things in brine. Witness four jars of pickles and six jars of olives:

Not pictured: a jar of capers and my homemade lebanese turnip pickles. I’m planning to make sauerkraut, next. Just like Beefy’s grandma. I bet she’d like this jacket.
