Green Velvet Red Lips

We spent Christmas Day with some barely relatives, at Beefy’s cousin’s husband’s sister’s house. You’d never know we were so distantly related by the warmth of their welcome or the spread on the table (crab legs, prime rib, and pecan pie). Hospitality like that deserved my festive best.

Sweater, vintage consignment. Dress, Parker (consignment). Boots, Steve Madden. Sunglasses, Earthbound Trading Co. Earrings, made by my friend. Clutch, Maggi B. Brooch (on clutch), vintage heirloom.

Local

After getting home at 3 a.m. this morning, I was up for a low-key Saturday. We kept it local. Beefy and I had lunch at Skool and shopped the OliaModa pop-up shop. Then we walked around the corner for cake and cheesecake at Rick’s Dessert Diner. Finally, we finished the day off at the club: a hot tub soak for me and treadmill time for Beefy.

Queen of Plaid

I love to mix plaids. I’m wearing three different plaids here, but the navy and red color palette gives the outfit a cohesive look.

Timid

You’d think after 10 years of outfit photos that I’d be less timid about taking them in front of other people. I wanted to take them in the skate park, today, but was too embarrassed to pose in front of the skaters (and possibly interrupt their fun). Instead, I strutted my stuff on a hilltop above the park (where they could no doubt still see me). Will I work up the courage (or better manage my timing) tomorrow?

Shirt, Passport. Shorts, Arizona (thrifted). Leggings, We Love Colors. Boots, Vince Camuto. Sunglasses, Earthbound Trading Co. Earrings, Charming Charlie. Bag, Vintage.

I used the Muted Mauve iNSTAMAT!C on my hair this morning. Just like last time I used it, the results were too timid. I much prefer the Ocean Storm (blue).

(And I dearly need a haircut. I have one scheduled for next Friday!)

Nice Outfit

I felt really good about this outfit because an old man in the produce section of Raley’s said, “Nice outfit!” Granted, I was reaching overhead for a plastic bag at the time and my skirt was probably riding up a bit . . . but I’ll take the compliment.

Hat, Nine West. Vest, AC-3998 (cut from a thrifted jacket). Plaid shirt, Passport. Star Wars tee, Disney. Skirt, Mossimo. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Vince Camuto. Earrings, consignment. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff (are you sick of seeing it yet?).

Brickhouse

I met my Toastmasters mentee for lunch and discovered a new-to-me art gallery, The Brickhouse. The owner graciously let me take photos with a few of the outdoor murals. I’ll be back for the big Day of the Dead celebration on my birthday!

Beastly

Don’t you love the word “beastly?” It’s an informal British term for “very unpleasant.” This heat is certainly beastly. It was 100 degrees today.

Dress, Ella Moss. Dress (worn as a slip), Roundy Bay (thrifted). Belt, thrifted. Shoes, Linea Paolo. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, Super Silver. Bag, Croft & Barrow.

It was a cool 88 degrees by the time Jasper’s agility class started. He won a Beastie Bar and didn’t think it was beastly, at all.

New Car Smell

I arrived at the Subaru dealership on Sunday morning and realized I had never bought a car (in the US). My first car was a Subaru Impreza wagon that my stepdad bought for me after graduating college. That car stayed with my sister when I moved overseas with the Marines. In Japan, I bought two or three used cars from other servicemembers. The salt air and hard use guaranteed that those vehicles never lasted long. I returned to the US, repossessed my Impreza, and drove it until the repairs finally cost more than the car’s worth. I was carless until I moved to California and began driving a company car. At age 40, I walked into a dealership for the first time with the intent of purchasing a vehicle.

Shirt, Mossimo. Tank, Old Navy. Skirt, Forever 21 (thrifted). Shoes, Toms. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Bag, vintage.

It’s a Crosstrek and is going to be awesome on the rough roads to trailheads.

Womp Womp

I feel I must apologize for the sad, droopy boobs in today’s photos. My trusty nude bra is in the wash, so I had to wear an old one and it was not up to the task. Sometimes, being a woman is such a pain.

Blouse, INC (thrifted). Belt, Hyde Collection. Skirt, Carole Little (thrifted). Shoes, Isaac Mizrahi. Earrings, Claire’s. Bag, Croft & Barrow.

It’s a pain to be a super fluffy dog, too. Jackson got a giant mat in his tail (I think from a burr) and by the time we had it cut out, he had worried it enough to create a hot spot. Now he’s on antibiotics and steroids and wearing the cone of shame. Womp womp.
