New Car Smell

I arrived at the Subaru dealership on Sunday morning and realized I had never bought a car (in the US). My first car was a Subaru Impreza wagon that my stepdad bought for me after graduating college. That car stayed with my sister when I moved overseas with the Marines. In Japan, I bought two or three used cars from other servicemembers. The salt air and hard use guaranteed that those vehicles never lasted long. I returned to the US, repossessed my Impreza, and drove it until the repairs finally cost more than the car’s worth. I was carless until I moved to California and began driving a company car. At age 40, I walked into a dealership for the first time with the intent of purchasing a vehicle.

It’s a Crosstrek and is going to be awesome on the rough roads to trailheads.

Mohawkin' in the USA

I got a haircut. It isn’t a style for the faint of heart.

Shirt, Mossimo. Skirt, Chaus Jeanswear (thrifted). Shoes, Seychelles. Sunglasses, Marc Jacobs. Earrings, vintage. Bag, SheBoBo.

From the right, you almost can’t tell that I’ve had half my hair shaved off.

My stylist warned me about sunburn on my naked head, but she did not mention that I’d be extra vulnerable to mosquitoes. Thankfully, I wore a thick, stretchy headband for a Mothers Day hike with my fur babies:

I gotta be honest, this haircut is taking some getting used to! One of my hair idols from way back when (5 or so years old) is Lieutenant Ilia in Star Trek: The Motion Picture (the first Star Trek movie). She was completely bald. I'm not there, yet.

Your Best Accessory

I’ve heard that your hair is your best accessory. According to the google search autofill, your best accessory may, instead, be your smile, your confidence or your nipples. Personally, I think a dog is your best accessory. Now, if only I could fit a 50+ pound border collie in my purse . . .

Shirt Mossimo. Tank and jeans, Old Navy. Shoes, Seychelles. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, Charming Charlie. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

I don't want to leave Jasper out of the fun!

I got both “accessories” in yesterday’s 365 pic:

Spaghetti Western

A poncho and brimmed hat make me think of Clint Eastwood in A Fistful of Dollars. The Starbucks barista disagreed with me, saying my look was more Marin County. Either way, it’s just the sort of Western boho look that I am choosing more and more often lately.

Poncho, Coldwater Creek. Sweater, Joseph A (thrifted). Shirt, Mossimo. Jeans, Old Navy. Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren. Hat, Nine West. Sunglasses, Girl Props. Earrings, Charming Charlie.

In true Western style, I worked hard until sunset, missing any opportunities for my 365 photo. An image from my outfit shoot will have to do:

1970's

This double denim outfit has a 1970’s vibe, don’t you think?

Shirt, Old Navy. Skirt, Forever 21 (consignment). Sandals, Seychelles (thrifted). Sunglasses, Target. Earrings, street vendor. Belt, thrifted. Bag, vintage.

I wore this outfit to our Toastmasters group summer celebration. I guess I’m now the official group photographer!

Silly poses are my favorite.

All-American

What’s more all-American than double denim and a baseball game?

Shirt, Mossimo. Skirt, Tilt (thrifted). Shoes, Toms. Hat, River Cats. Earrings, California State Fair. Bag, thrifted.

I think baseball is super boring (which probably means I’m a communist), but I enjoy the people watching and the views. I especially enjoyed these sculptures emerging from the upper walls of the River Cats pro shop.
