Beefy and I live together, but our schedules don't always align and some days he never gets to see me in my work clothes. I’m glad I have this blog so that he doesn’t miss out on my daily brilliance.

Rolled Out of Bed

Have you ever had a Monday when you wish you could just go to work in pajamas? Yeah, me too. So, I did.

American Prepster

I just realized that every American Eagle item I own is pretty preppy. This thrifted gingham shirt and cotton skirt are no exception.

Not only are the clothes surprisingly preppy, but they’ve lasted a long time. The shirt was thrifted and I’ve worn it multiple times. The skirt was purchased in 2000. My other AE items are also going strong: wedge loafers from Fall 2008 (AE for Payless*) and a corduroy blazer that I don’t even remember buying.

I’ve gotten a lot more use out of a teeny bopper brand than I would have expected!

Sporty Sunday: Fitness Routine, June 2012

The Flying Pig marathon is a month behind me. Now, I’m now training for the Pike’s Peak Ascent: a half marathon scaling almost 8000 vertical feet. With the help of a five-time veteran of the race, I'm on the following training plan:

Monday
- Zumba followed by lower body strength training
-Masters swim practice (90 min)

Tuesday
- Track repeats (5 miles) on a treadmill followed by upper body strength training

Wednesday
- Easy yoga followed by stretching
- Masters swim practice (90 min)

Thursday
- Stairs!

Friday
- Strength circuit

Saturday
- Masters swim practice (90 min)

Sunday
- Long hike (6 – 12 miles)

I’ve kept the following from my marathon training routine:
Strength training
Track repeats
Swimming (as cross-training)
No planned rest day (I take a day off as needed to accommodate other activities or fatigue)

I’ve added:
A hip flexor strength exercise
Zumba (Yay! I love dancing and really missed this class.)
Stairs (To prep for the 13.1 mile uphill trek)
Hiking

Bare Thighs

Saturday was one of those rare days where tall boots and short shorts are perfectly comfortable: sunny, but breezy and cool. So I took advantage of the situation.

Take Two

I attended the second annual Little Black Dress Event. I wore the same dress I wore to the office all day. In fact, it was the same dress I wore to the event last year. Because the LBD is all about versatility.

To differentiate this year’s look, I changed up the accessories. And I ended up wearing a jacket much of the night because this year’s event was much cooler!




I also changed up my date. My friend Colette got to trot out her LBD (and Little Black Bag or LBB), too.

As an Honorary Fashionista, I circulated among the crowd, photographing my favorite LBDs.


Lauren, pictured here with her boyfriend, had a glamorous, 30’s look.


Leslie, of Shoefessional, took a picture of my shoes. I wish I’d gotten a close up of hers. They were fabulous!


Danielle wins the award for both “sexiest LBD look” and “awesomest hair.” I was so impressed with her ‘do that I took two pictures of Danielle.



Ok, “sexiest LBD look” and “awesomest hair” weren’t actual prize categories, but “best dressed” was and I nominated Sophia. Her dress had beautiful movement and her hair was also “awesome.”


This trio caught my eye. Ilene of 513 Eats was wearing an Amy Kirchen original. Bernard (center) might have been wearing the best shoes of the event. Del impressed me with his western hat.


Holly gets my vote for “looks most like an American movie star.”


Colette thought that Christine looked like an Italian movie star, so we chased her down and took her picture.


Charlotte won the “best dressed” grand prize: a Jaguar for the weekend. The cut-outs on her dress and her accessories were so on trend. Although you can’t see it in the photo, she was wearing one of her own necklace creations.
I had such a wonderful time meeting all these well-dressed ladies. I can’t wait for next year.

Business Creative LBD

I don’t have time to change my clothing before tonight’s The Little Black Dress Event, so I’m dressing down my cocktail LBD for the office.


Dress, Banana Republic. Jacket, thrifted. Necklace Anthropologie. Shoes, Mossimo. Cuff and rings, vintage and/or gift.


To transition to evening, I had planned merely to shed the jacket and change necklaces (and the not-pictured-purse). However, on the way to work, the rain destroyed my carefully ironed hair and my shoes were damaged. So I’ll be wearing an updo and new shoes at tonight’s event (but I’m actually quite pleased with both!)
