Interference

The suddenly limited range of my camera remote perplexed me, until I realized the electric farm to my left was interfering with the signal. Makes you wonder what else is stunted by all that electricity.

Alternate Route

I love discovering back roads that get me to the same place as the main route, but with more interesting views. It turns out, I-5 isn’t the only path from Woodland to Sacramento. And the alternate route has much better opportunities for photos.

Sherbet and Cream

I was looking, and keeping, cool in this cream colored dress with sherbet colored accents.

Wash Me

If this dress were a car, someone would have traced “WASH ME” into the dirt on the back window by now. I wore it all day Monday (including travel from Sacramento to LA and a cocktail hour). I wore it Tuesday evening to Universal Studios. And I slept in it Monday and Tuesday nights. (Sleeping in my clothes is one of my greatest vices.)

On Saturday morning, I gave it the sniff test and decided I could get one more wear out of it.

Later, I ditched the hat and shirt, changed the wedges for Teva sandals, and splashed around in the American River with Jasper. Finally, the dress was filthy enough to wash.

Bum Under a Train

I haven’t yet been chased out of a train yard by the bulls, but I have had a few run-ins with my fellow tramps. This time, a hobo was quietly lying under a train, head propped up on his hands, watching me take my photos. After I spotted him, I apologized for disturbing his nap and moved to a different part of the yard. No conflict . . . but kind of creepy.

Can't Take Me Anywhere

This dress is made from some horrible form of polyester that shows everything I spill on it. After I use the restroom, it’s flecked with water from the sink. (The water spots do disappear after they dry.) After a meal, it’s dotted with oil spots from whatever I’ve dropped in my lap. (Those do not fade.) After sprinkling myself with dressing at lunch, and then attempting to remove the stains with hand soap, water, and paper towels, my skirt was a total mess and I changed.

But for the first four hours of the day, I looked like this:

Cocktail Casual

Beware the dress code that changes from cocktail to casual shortly before the event. I dressed for the “casual” and it turned out that most went with the original “cocktail.” I felt very silly in my colorful, summery outfit and quite jealous of the black sequin hotpants someone else was wearing.

Proximity Purchase

My days of lazily flipping through the thrift store rails and even distractedly browsing online are on hold. Forget the mall. Who has time to deal with the traffic, the parking, the crowds, and the long walk from one end to another? These days, I get my shopping in at or next to my customers.

Boheme is a second-hand shop located next to one of my Davis salons. It has tempted me for months, and I finally gave in last Saturday. I walked out with this silk, Talbot's dress for a song.

I've got this opportunity shopping thing down.

Grainy LA

Brace yourself for some spectacularly bad photos.

My first day at our Hollywood meeting, I had a 45 minute break to get up to my room on the 20th floor, take photos, change, take photos, and get back to the lower level. I was feeling pretty confident about the timeline until I had to wait 15 minutes for an elevator and then another 15 for security to let me into my room (because my key card had demagnetized). So, this is what you get in the remaining fifteen minutes:

Sporty Sophisticate

I always think of this jacket as a sort of fancy piece, so I was surprised to see how well satin ruffles went with an island print dress and multi-colored sneakers.
