1 Flannel 3 Ways: pattern mixed with a bright scarf

Plaid is one of my favorite patterns to mix with other prints. I topped my plaid flannel shirt with a striped scarf. Underneath, I wore a printed tee. And I carried a striped basket to shop the Rose Bowl Flea Market. Pattern and color explosion!

1 Flannel 3 Ways: tied around the waist of a dress

The beauty of a long-sleeved flannel shirt as outerwear is that it is easily (and stylishly) tied around the waist if the day proves warmer than expected. (Confession: I never expected to wear my shirt anywhere but around my waist on sunny Saturday in Disney’s California Adventure.)

1 Flannel 3 Ways: with a denim vest and (p)leather leggings

This season’s “it” garment is the lowly plaid, flannel shirt. I certainly wore one in the 90’s. I usually paired it with my “Earth” tee, Birkenstock clogs, and stonewash, bootcut jeans. This time around, I’m a little less grungy, but still keeping it casual.

I’m wearing my modern flannel shirt three different ways over the next three days. Day one: layered under a studded denim vest and paired with faux leather leggings.

Rain Stripes

When life gives you rain, counter with stripes.

Type Seven

Beefy’s psychologist cousin stayed with us a few months ago and determined our enneagram (personality) types. I’m a seven, The Enthusiast. I bet you never would have guessed.

December Green

California’s central valley gets so GREEN with a properly wet winter. I complained about gray winter skies last week, but I can’t complain about green winter landscapes*.

I’m regressing to the neo-hippie I was in college. Expect a baja, birkenstocks, and overgrown locks, soon. Just kidding. I never wore a baja. But I did wear overalls.

Ruffled Edges

I’m surprised I’ve never paired this skirt with a poncho before. They are great matches. The poncho conceals the skirt’s awkward emphasis of the gut but reveals its flirty butt ruffles.

Rainwear

I used a birthday gift certificate to purchase these shorty rain boots. I was debating between an olive and this black (with red elastic) pair. I think I made the right choice.

Gray for Daze

Sometimes Beefy and I talk about moving to Washington state, my home for 22 years. But I don’t know if I could face the nearly year-round gray skies, again. A few cloudy days in Sacramento is more than enough for me each year.

Experiment No. 604

I started the Red Hat Experiments (pairing red and purple in outfits) when I was 33. Now I have only ten years until I can actually be a Red Hatter. In the meantime, I continue to practice wearing red and purple.
