Cycle Weekend - Day 2

Without a car, one of the most difficult places for me to get to are the big box stores, like Target and WalMart. However, that seems to be the only place to find a sports watch. Mine has broken and I couldn’t find a replacement downtown. So, I hopped on the bike again and headed to Target on Sunday.

Hoodie, Disney. Dress, Giorgio Fiorlani (thrifted). Sneakers, Champion (thrifted). Bag, Coldwater Creek.

Supplies needed for the long cycle to Target: a snack, padded shorts, a helmet*, and a cat**.

*Of course, I always wear a helmet on my bicycle - not only to ride to Target.

**Just kidding about the kitty. Although I do have fantasies of riding with two cats in each pannier – their little faces peeking out from under the lids, enjoying the breeze.

Cycle Weekend - Day 1

When a mechanic told me my car needed prohibitively expensive repairs in November 2008, I gave it up. I began traveling by foot, by bus, and by bicycle instead. I even bought groceries on my bike – loading them into saddlebags and riding to and from Bigg’s on the sidewalk. (The motorists in my area are distinctly not bike-friendly.)

Lately, Beefy has spoiled me with rides in his car and my bike sat long enough to lose all air from its tires. This weekend, Beefy worked, so I had to put my lazy butt back on the bike for my weekend errands.

Cardigan, Juicy Couture (swap). Dress, Blu Heaven. Sneakers, Champion (thrifted).

On Saturday, I rode to the thrift store for pieces of the On Golden Pond mailman costume. I got lucky. And maybe I found a few things for myself, as well.

Saddlebags

Saddlebags, M-Wave Day Tripper Double Pannier.

This entry isn’t about what I wore, but my bike’s newest accessory: saddlebags! Because I’m carless, I make my shopping trips on the bus or my bike. I don’t mind biking with a backpack of goods when the temperatures are cool, but wearing a bag on my back is sweaty and uncomfortable when it’s hot out. I test drove my new bags with a shopping trip just after taking the photo. They performed well.

I readily admit that I drive like an old lady, but I ride my bike like a crazy mo fo. Seriously, I’m hell on two wheels. I feel even crazier without a backpack. I am pretty reckless when crossing driveways and intersections.

My friend Erin gave me these New Balance shoes. They are much spiffier than my usual athletic shoe. The rest of my outfit isn’t worth mentioning.

There Was No BBQ Sauce

Tank, Express. Shorts, NY & Co. Flipflops, SM. Cardigan, Juicy Couture (swap). Necklace, Pangaea. Bicycle, Schwinn.

I spent the morning making Asian Coleslaw and Nanaimo Bars for the two BBQs I’ve been invited to attend today. Oh, excuse, me, grill-outs, not barbeques. I’ve been told that it isn’t a BBQ if there is no barbeque sauce involved. Silly Midwestern dialect.

I rode my bike to the first grill-out, with my coleslaw (not pictured) strapped to the rear rack.

Of course, I always wear my helmet! (But it doesn’t always match.)

Bicycling in the Dark

Jacket, Dex (swap). Dress, No Boundaries. Leggings, Danskin. Boots, Diba. Bag, Nine West. Earrings, Pangaea. Cat, Bear.

I went bicycling in the dark to attend a get together at my friend Abby’s house. The ride was fine until I was almost there and the sidewalk ended. Although I had a headlight and blinking taillight, I was still honked and yelled at for being on the road. Thankfully, the sidewalk-less portion was short and I caught a ride home.

Cincinnati is not a bike-friendly city.

He may look all cuddly, but Bear is clawing the heck out of my neck in this shot.
