Novocain

I have terrible teeth. I can blame genetics or well water or poor flossing habits, but no excuse can rid me of a mouthful of fillings. I see the dentist often and it’s never fun. She treated me to Novocain and a little drilling, today. There is not much smiling in these pics because I still couldn’t move or feel my upper right lip. It sucks, but all I can do is laugh at myself (and floss better).

Jacket, Chaps. Skirt, Outlander (thrifted and gifted). Boots, Steve Madden. Sunglasses, Target. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

My Novocain smile:

P.S. I did a really good job of putting lipstick on numb lips.

Back in Hats

What do you get when you let your undercut grow out for six months? A hair disaster! I’m in hats until my haircut appointment.

Hat, Free Press. Shirt, Salt Valley (consignment). Shorts, Forever 21. Leggings, Danskin. Boots, Vince Camuto. Necklace, vintage. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff. Belt, thrifted.

I’m slowly getting back into the groove. I’m resuming old habits and picking up new ones, like accompanying Beefy on his evening walk with the dogs. I got him to pick up a new habit, too: petty larceny. Is it really stealing when the tree hangs over the fence onto public property? These pomegranates would just have rotted on the ground if we hadn’t picked them, first.

Capacity

My days are pretty full. I’m up early to exercise the dogs and usually have an evening activity. Of course, work happens in the middle. I’m currently training another sales consultant and I don’t know how I’m managing to fit it all in (as well as continue to blog!)

Dress, Banana Republic (consignment). Dress (worn as a slip), Mossimo. Shoes, Seychelles. Sunglasses, Toms. Earrings, street fair. Bag, Aldo.

I’m still managing to snag outfit shots, but editing the photos and putting them into a blog post is more of a time challenge.

Awesome Video

I hate going to the movies. I’d much rather stay in and watch a film at home. At home, I have unlimited bathroom breaks, cheap snacks, and cuddly dogs. The ability to pause and come back is the best. It can take me days to watch a movie.

Dress, Banana Republic (consignment). Tunic (worn under dress), Rachel Rachel Roy (consignment). Shoes, Seychelles. Sunglasses, Toms. Earrings, street fair. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

I haven’t been to an actual video store in years, preferring Netflix (like most people). But Sacramento has a brick-and-mortar video store, Awesome Video, and I should patronize it just because it has the most awesome mural on the side:

Seeing Stars

We had a cool, wet, windy Friday and I was glad for another chance to wear my star sweater before summer. (Probably the last wear of this houndstooth sweater skirt, too.)

Jacket, REI. Sweater, Full Tilt (thrifted). Skirt, Outlander (thrifted and gifted). Tights, Me Moi. Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, Stardust Remembered. Bag, Target.

I saw a star of another sort Friday night when Beefy and I watched his friend in her one woman show, Arlington. I might have done a little exploring on the way to the bathroom and found this corner, completely plastered in show posters.

Colette

I think Colette is my friend I most wish I could be like. She has alabaster skin and the softest, dark curls. She sings like an angel and acts like a demon. Seriously, her talent is scary. She was an amazing Mercutio and Abigail Williams and Maggie the Cat. She follows all the zeitgeist comedians and knows all the obscure, British comedies. She is kind and thoughtful and artistic and delightfully quirky. I couldn’t believe it when she wanted to be my friend and I miss her now that we are over 2,000 miles apart.

Jacket, Xhilaration (thrifted). Dress, Banana Republic (consignment). Tights, gift from Colette. Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren. Earrings, Jack E Oh NYC.

These tights were a gift from Colette and I think of her when I wear them. I also love this custom postcard she made for me combining Logan’s Run, fashion, and a motorcycle.

I miss you, Colette!

Capital Capitol

It doesn’t get much grander than Toastmasters in the capitol building!

Jacket, Xhilaration (thrifted). Shirt, Old Navy. Skirt, Outlander (thrifted and gifted). Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren. Sunglasses, Charming Charlie. Earrings, Ali’s Boutique. Necklace, Zad. Purse, Clark’s.

I felt so special to get to go in THERE for some “offical business:”

You may be disappointed that I didn’t take my outfit photos on the steps of the Capitol. It does appear to be allowed (I saw a woman posing among the columns for a pro photog on my way in), but I don’t have the balls to set up my tripod in front of all the tourists, whip out the remote, and snap my self-portraits. I did make Beefy promise to return with me to see the museum in the basement and get my Capitol portrait.

Keep It Legal

A surprising number of items in my wardrobe have one primary function: cover my butt so I can “legally” wear leggings as pants. I wear my leggings under short shorts, tunics, miniskirts, and, my favorite, this overall “dress.” It’s so convenient to go from lounge wear to street wear by just layering it over leggings and a top.

Vest, J Crew. Overall dress, Hydraulic (thrifted). Sweater, Charlotte Russe. Leggings, Xhilaration. Boots, Style & Co (thrifted). Sunglasses, Meow Meow. Earrings, Claire’s.

Conversely, I guess the leggings keep all my crotch scrapers “legal.” Without leggings, I’d always be flashing my goods since I rarely “sit like a lady” or do anything else “like a lady.” My ladylike days were over when we became dog people.
