Stripes Over Florals

Striped blazer, Mossimo. Ruffled blouse, Worthington. Floral skirt, Herman Geist (thrifted and shortened by me). Belt, don’t remember. Slingbacks, Linea Paolo. Purse, Isaac Mizrahi for Target. Earrings, Xhilaration.

Yes, a velvet skirt was a little warm on a 95 degree day. I was saved by the fact that the skirt is short and poufy, so it admits breezes. Still, it’s time to retire it to the fall. (But first, Londyn is borrowing it. I can’t wait to see how she styles it.)

I have a strong interest in pattern mixing. So far, I’ve mostly experimented with stripes and florals. I’d like to try something more daring like two florals or combining a tartan with another print. Past pattern mixing (featuring this striped jacket twice):

(I’m not sure if the last one counts. Does pattern + lace = pattern mixing?)

The print on the skirt is gorgeous and I love the hint of red from the blouse!

Again with the shoes that match your skin tone!! Throw them away, thrift them or sell them, but please stop wearing them.

i don't know what's up with the girl who doesn't like nude shoes. i think they're awesome. this outfit is my favorite that i've seen you wear. it's adorable!

-also: i think a tartan would go easily with a tiny floral with the same color palette as the tartan.

I totally disagree with anonymous above. I love the nude shoes. They lengthen the leg and don't distract from the rest of the outfit.

You are much braver than I to mix patterns. I can barely mix a pattern to a solid most days.

I actually like a nude-tone shoe for the summer. I wasn't a fan of them in the past, but you've shown me that the purpose is more to showcase the outfit itself, without calling too much attention to, or sacrificing style on the foot. Consider me a nude-tone shoe convert. :)

I want nude shoes too!!
I agree that they lengthen the legs and are beautiful with colorful and summery dresses
