Trying

I gave these cropped pants another try today. They got a few compliments, but I’m not totally happy with them. Like most legged bottoms, they grow over the course of the day, leaving me with a baggy bottom and saggy knees.

Remoto

Five years and almost five months ago, I took my first self-portrait with a remote control. Many batteries and one device later (I lost that first one just a few months ago!), I’m still loving the freedom the remote (and tripod) give me to photograph my daily outfits.

Jacket, thrifted. Dress, Merona. Shoes, Oh Deer! Earrings, Claire’s. Necklace, Target. Bag, Caprice (thrifted and vintage).

Self-photography via remote takes a little practice and constant trial and error. Framing, posing, and exposure must all be corrected after taking a photo or two for reference. And sometimes, the remote itself is visible in the image:

Still, I love that little device!

June Gloom

We got a bit of the June Gloom in Northern California this week. It was suddenly a bit too cool to wear this light, silk dress to an evening event in San Francisco. Happily, it took only a pair of tights and a rain jacket to keep me comfortable.

Dress, Parker. Belt, Deena and Ozzy. Tights, We Love Colors. Shoes, Steven. Sunglasses, Target. Necklace, Stella & Dot. Bag, Apt 9. Jacket, REI.

Saturday Shortsday

If you must work on a Saturday, you might as well wear shorts.

Blouse, INC (thrifted). Shorts, Audrey. Shoes, Gianni Bini. Sunglasses, Target. Earrings, Jack E Ohs NYC. Bag, Charming Charlie.

And you might as well hop around in an empty parking lot when you’re done.

Instant Casual Cool

I’ve been wearing this denim vest pretty regularly on Fridays. It instantly makes my business look less “business.”

Shirt, Sans Souci. Vest, AC-3998 (cut from a thrifted jacket). Skirt, Travis Ayers (thrifted). Shoes, Carlos Santana. Sunglasses, Target. Earrings, Cuffs. Brooch, Avon (gift). Bag, Go Jane.

Under Over Inside Out

Last time I paired this dress and blouse, I wore the blouse under the dress. Today I got crazy and wore the blouse over the dress. Earth-shattering, huh?

Shirt, FY2 (thrifted). Dress, Jones New York. Shoes, Franco Sarto. Earrings, Jack E Ohs NYC. Cuff, vintage gift. Bag, Go Jane.

So, is it better under or over?

The shirt is better...

Skimpy Striped Skirt

Where has the stretchy, bodcon skirt been all my life? I don’t think I’ve every worn something as flattering AND comfortable.

The Neon Life

I did not groan when neon trended a few years ago; I didn’t get enough of it the first time around!

Shirt, Old Navy. Skirt, thrifted, vintage, shortened, and embellished. Shoes, Prabal Gurung for Target. Sunglasses, Girl Props. Necklace, Heart Boutique. Bag, Mondani. Swimsuit (pictured below), Speedo.

Although the trend is probably on its way out, I keep adding neon items to my wardrobe. My latest additions: this necklace and my new workout suit!*

*The swimsuit was a happy accident. I took a chance with Swim Outlet’s Speedo Endurance grab bag and got lucky. Last time, I got a dumb aloha print.

Sacramento Woman's Surprising Weight-Loss Secret

I’ve figured out how those ladies of yore maintained such trim figures: dresses with a fitted bodice and no stretch. There simply isn’t room for a piece of pie after dinner.

Dress, vintage. Belt, Banana Republic. Shoes, J Crew. Earrings, Target. Bag, Melie Bianco

Of course, there are those “lucky” ladies (like myself) who gain most of their weight below the waist. We can eat a piece of pie and a slice of cake and simply hide the evidence under a full skirt. (I just have to discretely unbutton the dress around my middle until digestion is complete.)

P.S. I suppose the title was a little misleading, but I'm assuming those similarly-named Facebook ads are also disappointing.

Oh, Pants!

I had a major clothing malfunction, today: I caught my heel in the hem of my silk pyjama pants and ripped the entire bottom three inches from the right leg. Since I had two hours until my next scheduled appointment, I went shopping for replacement bottoms. (I was 45 minutes from the house, and buying new bottoms was faster than driving home, changing, and driving back again.) These cropped pants are the inadequate replacement.
