Roll or Rut

Gone Thiftin'

I went thrifting today and documented the whole trip (including try-ons) on Snapchat. It was like thrifting with a virtual friend! (And Beefy said I finally did Snapchat right.) The snaps don’t hang around long, but, never fear, I plan to recap the experience and wear my new finds in a Let’s Go Thrifting post next week. I’m whatiwore2day if you’d like to be Snapchat friends. I received many compliments on my booties and hair at the Goodwill. I dyed it blue this morning with a temporary color. Now that I now longer work for Wella, I can tell you that I do not follow the directions and leave the Color Touch iNSTAMAT!C in Ocean Storm on for a full hour, instead of the directed 20 minutes. It really sticks to the bleached ends and my natural whites. It will quickly fade to a soft silver, even without using shampoo. Just rinsing and conditioning fade the color noticeably, so it’s a great option for someone who’d like to have blue or pink hair for just a long weekend or vacation.

Tenth Blogoversary

It’s my tenth blogoversary and I’m not quitting this outfit diary. Are you curious about what’s new in Year Eleven of WhatIWore2Day?

First of all, I’ve given up on replacing the green cardigan that I wore with this blouse and skirt in my very first outfit post (and the first four blogoversaries). After the sweater was ruined by dye transfer from a dark purple shirt, I attempted to replace it with three different green jackets and a denim vest for my later blogoversaries. This year, I just wore a nude camisole underneath and went topper-less. This is California, after all. We still see 80 degrees and higher in October.


Second, I’m embracing my natural hair color. It used to be dishwater blonde, but now it’s coming in silvery and I like it.


Last, I am trying Snapchat as a platform to show you behind the scenes, outfit details, and outfits in motion. My user name is whatiwore2day. (I’ll be honest, I’m still trying to figure it out, but Beefy is younger than I, so hopefully he’ll help.)

Summer Cut

The first few days with this haircut, I complained about my head’s sensitivity to cold and drafts. This week, we’re expecting temps in the 80s and 90s, so I’m glad to have my summer cut. No more complaining about a cold head from me!

On Saturday, I chaperoned a group of kids at Walk on the Wildside, an event celebrating the environment and wildlife. On Sunday, I climbed onto my neighbor’s garage roof to spread reflective tarps that keep her grooming business cooler.

Blueper

I’m not showing you the bloopers in today’s photo shoot, but, as in every session that involves jumping, there were a few. Inevitably, I capture awkward squats, crazy eyes, and revealing skirt movement.

Blue and White Life

I blame my time in Japan with starting my blue and white dish obsession. I outfitted my kitchen with blue and white plates and bowls from the 100 yen store. I picked up tumblers, mugs, and sauce dishes at the nicer shops. As they’ve broken, or I’ve needed more dishes, I’ve had fun thrifting blue and white pieces in the US. I love having a variety of patterns and styles, all united by the color palette.

As fun as it is to slowly cobble together my blue and white dish collection, I am still tempted by displays like this one, at Williams and Sonoma.


I just try to remind myself that even if I had the cash to buy all the pieces new, and at once, it would not be as satisfying as my treasure hunt.

Take Your Droid to Work Day

You probably haven’t heard, but the latest Star Wars movie was released on Thursday! In honor of The Force Awakens, I wore R2D2 to work. He was very well received, just like the movie.
