Roll or Rut

I’ve now worn this shirt two days in a row. You could say I’m in a rut. Or that this flannel is on a roll!

Less Watching, More Writing

After I finished my final 40 B4 40 item (my birthday party), I began six weeks of utter slothfulness. I kicked it off with a nasty cold that started an even nastier Gossip Girl addiction. I sniffled in bed, watching Netflix and slowly working my way through the glut of alcohol left over from the party. My dreams of working on my book during the holidays were discarded for marathon sleep sessions, hangovers, and more Gossip Girl. By the new year, though, I was ready to switch my screen time from watching to writing. I’m on a productivity roll and even made it to a writer’s group on Saturday. (Plus, I drank all the booze and refuse to buy more.)

Jacket, Obey (customized by my sister). Denim shirt, Levi’s (thrifted). Tunic, Forever 21. Sweater, Joseph A (thrifted). Leggings, Express. Boots, Style & Co (thrifted). Bag, Steve Madden.

Today’s 365 is my favorite of the television screens depicted in this mural. It’s no Gossip Girl, but it’s pretty cute.

Amtrak Salute

We returned from Denver (to Sacramento) by train. When our car attendant warned us of mooning along the route, we didn’t take him seriously. It turns out that the Amtrak Salute is serious business. Rafters, fisherman, and campers along the tracks were quick to drop their drawers and show us their butts. I never knew that mooning could be so enthusiastic. There was bouncing, twisting, slapping, and general manipulation. The conductor warned us not to respond in kind. Personally, I think a line of butt cheeks pressed against the windows of the observation car would have been a perfect response.

Tunic, Forever 21. Tank and jeans, Old Navy. Boots, Ariat. Sunglasses, earrings, and scarf, Charming Charlie. Bag, Guess.

Had I known about the Amtrak Salute, I would have brought the telephoto lens instead of the fisheye. If you click and squint, though, you can make out three bare butts in the boat.

Smart Look

I got glasses I love just after I started a job totally unsuited for glasses. Sacramento is relentlessly sunny and my eyes are super sensitive. I spend hours driving a day and am constantly going in and out of buildings. I wouldn’t really be wearing glasses, I’d just be swapping them with sunglasses all day. (Or waiting for the transition lenses to respond to the light changes.)

Today, though, I didn’t go outside once. I didn’t even see daylight, except when taking these pictures in my room. The vampire life is much better suited to specs.

Blazer, Diane von Furstenberg (consignment). Dress, Cut25 (consignment). Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Joe’s. Bag, Apt 9.

I haven’t forgotten that one of my 40B440 items is “pink hair.” I was treated to a little inspiration at one of our presentations today:

Close One

Lately, I’ve been ruthlessly adding to the “donation bag” in my closet. If, after a few tries, I can’t get a piece to work, in it goes! This blazer narrowly escaped the bag this morning. It’s probably safe until next fall, when I try to style it again.

Blazer, Cami. Vest, Express (thrifted). Dress, Lipstick. Belt, Express. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Nine West. Necklace, Stella and Dot. Brooch, thrifted. Rings, vintage, thrifted, gift, and heirloom.

Plight of the Procrastinator

I’m miserly with my disposable contacts…wearing them until they fall apart (instead of until the recommended “replace by” timing). Eventually, though, I run out. I’m down to a single contact. Lopsided vision gives me a headache, so I’m wearing glasses.

Blazer, BSB (thrifted). Dress, London Times (hand-me-down). Blouse, Charlotte Russe. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Nine West. Earrings, Julie’s Inspiration. Brooch, swap. Scarf, gift from Londyn. Rings, gift, Puzzrollrings, and vintage. Bag, Fossil (gift).

One Woman, Many Patterns

A little over four years ago, I said that I had “a strong interest in pattern mixing.” Well, I suppose I’ve moved beyond interest at this point. Dare I say it’s now an obsession?

Shirt, Nollie (thrifted). Dress, Jams World (thrifted). Sandals, Seychelles (thrifted). Hat and bag, Charming Charlie. Earrings, Monica D. Rings, vintage and PuzzrollRings.

Back in June, 2008, I wanted to “try something more daring like two florals or combining a tartan with another print.” Done and done! I wouldn’t have dared to even think of mixing three patterns back then.

Oregon Coast Vacation

The blog has been largely silent due to my and Beefy Muchacho’s vacation to the Oregon Coast.

I tried to pack light. I didn’t bring a lot of clothes. . . but still managed to pack five pairs of shoes. (Only three pair appear, below. The other two were for the campground showers and running. And I brought home an additional two pair I found thrifting.) I was a remixing queen!
