Amazing

Isn’t it amazing that I found a top that goes so well with this skirt? Or maybe that I found a skirt that goes with this top?

Also amazing: how wrinkly and saggy these leggings are. Danskin, you let me down this time. I plan to replace the loose leggings with a matte brown pair from We Love Colors.

Cardigan sweater, Energie (thrifted). Jungle sweater, Joseph A (thrifted). Skirt, One Star. Leggings, Danskin. Boots, Dan Post.

Socks Not Tights

Just checking in to say that it was utterly delightful to wear knee socks instead of tights today. Late January in Sacramento rocks.

Ennui

I have a serious case of fashion ennui. I went to the mall last weekend and was bored bored bored by the offerings. I followed it up with some virtual browsing and was still bored. Leggings, skinny jeans, blazers, oversized sweaters, chiffon, florals, polka dots galore. Show me something new. Or less recently recycled.

Blazer, The Limited. Dress, I Heart Ronson. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Miz Mooz. Earrings, Girlshop. Brooch, heirloom. Rings, Black Hills Gold, vintage, and Puzzrollrings.

I’m currently considering the aesthetic that will guide my future purchases. Cowgirl? Arty Slick? Pin-up? What looks are you finding fresh and inspiring?

Velvet Suit

Doesn’t a velvet suit sound delicious? I paired my velveteen dress and velvet blazer together to create a velvet ensemble.

Blazer, The Limited. Shirt, INC (cut from a swapped dress). Dress, NY & Co (shortened). Belt, thrifted. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Nine West. Rings, gift, thrifted, and heirloom. Bag, Fossil (gift)

When it comes to comfort, velveteen has an edge over velvet because it stretches. But velvet does a better job camouflaging lumps and bumps. This dress shows every layer underneath the midsection: shirt, slip, tights, underpants. Maybe I need a velvet girdle to complete the look.

Waning Winter Wear

I feel like I’m running out of time to wear my wintry items. Today felt positively springlike. I’m cramming the plaid, velvet, wool, tweed, and pleather into my wardrobe this week.

Jacket, H&M (thrifted). Blouse, FY2 (thrifted). Dress, Bitten (shortened). Boots, Madeline. Scarf, Camp Foster PX “mall” (embellished by me). Rings, Black Hills Gold and Puzzrollrings. Bag, Fossil (gift).

Fancy (Short) Pants

A few years ago I was in love with my tweed winter shorts, but I had to give them the boot because they were just too low-waisted. My new wear-with-tights shorts are less snuggly and more fancy: glittery brocade pattern and a high waist (although I’ve obscured the waist with an untucked shirt today).

Shirt, Old Navy. Sweater, INC. Shorts, Sans Souci. Boots, Rampage. Sunglasses, Target. Earrings, Epcot Mexico.

No Remote

I’m pretty good about remembering all my tech gear when I leave the house: iPad, two phones, ipod, MiFi, camera (with memory card and charged battery), and remote. But I still slip up on occasion. Today: no camera remote.

Blazer, Fang. Shirt, Moda International. Skirt, Hauber Sporting Life (thrifted). Tights, We Love Colors. Booties, Style & Co. Scarf, gift from Londyn. Bag, Fossil (gift).

My remote-less strategy is to place my purse where I plan to pose, focus the camera on the purse, lock the focus (putting the lens on manual), set the timer, and dash! This process was made even lengthier today by challenging light conditions. These pictures are in the fourth location I tried. After all that dashing, I was a little disheveled.

Dressing Like It's May

I broke out of my fall/winter palette rut and dressed like it was May* today. Don’t worry, the neutrals will be back tomorrow.

Blazer, J Crew. Dress, Tucker for Target. Belt, thrifted. Tights, We Love Colors. Shoes, Libby Edelman. Necklace, Target. Rings, Black Hills Gold, vintage, and Puzzrollrings. Watch, Raymond Weil.

*The colors are May, but I don’t know if the wool blazer would be so great in May.

Excuse Me, Miss

Clothing malfunctions are never fun. Open flies, gaping buttons, inside-out tops, and mismatched socks (or boots!) are all embarrassing. I suppose a dangling slip isn’t the worst that can happen, but it was annoying enough that I yanked it off shortly after taking these photos.

Jacket, H&M (thrifted). Stole, heirloom. Skirt, Jones New York (thrifted). Tights, no name brand from Madame Butterfly. Shoes, Isaac Mizrahi for Target. Earrings, swap. Rings, Black Hills Gold, Puzzrollrings, and Silpada. Bag, Fossil (gift)

Plight of the Procrastinator

I’m miserly with my disposable contacts…wearing them until they fall apart (instead of until the recommended “replace by” timing). Eventually, though, I run out. I’m down to a single contact. Lopsided vision gives me a headache, so I’m wearing glasses.

Blazer, BSB (thrifted). Dress, London Times (hand-me-down). Blouse, Charlotte Russe. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Nine West. Earrings, Julie’s Inspiration. Brooch, swap. Scarf, gift from Londyn. Rings, gift, Puzzrollrings, and vintage. Bag, Fossil (gift).
